MARLENE
Q
My name is Marlene. I was actually due on Feb. 23 but delivered Logan
31 days early on Jan. 21, 2002.
I woke up early on Monday morning because I had to go to the bathroom,
then I tried to go back to sleep but couldn't sleep and went to the bathroom
again at 3:45 a.m. When I went back to bed I started having contractions.
They started to get painful so I woke up Jeff and asked him to time them.
He said they were 4 minutes apart so we'd better go to the hospital. I
didn't want to go because I didn't think they were severe enough and it
could be false labor. He said we could go to the hospital to stop the
contractions so I said okay. I packed a bag in between contractions.
Luckily
our friends, Rodney and Jane, were here visiting so we woke them up and
we left Jared (3 year old) sleeping. On our way downstairs I had a contraction
and felt like pushing. We left at 4:30 a.m. On the way to the hospital
Jeff called our midwife. Then when we got to emergency room parking and
were walking to the ER, I had another stronger contraction and felt like
pushing again. We got a wheelchair and Jeff took me up. When we got to
Labour and Delivery the resident checked me and said I was ready to push.
Four pushes and baby was out. Logan was born at 4:55 a.m. Our midwife,
Deanna, missed the delivery but came in time to deliver the placenta.
She said that this has never happened to her before. Subsequently, I felt
fine after birth since it was so short.
Logan
was 6 pounds 14 ounces and was in good shape so he didn't have to go to
the special care nursery. We were in the hospital 2 nights and were able
to go home on Wed. morning. We would have been able to leave earlier if
he had not been premature.
